My favorite pitched instrument. The main
technique is tapping on the strings against the fretboard. Here are some
pictures of my Raptor, which is no longer in production. There are more
photos of the various Warr
instruments at the Warr Guitars web site.
It has a maple body (a bit of flame to it) and neck with a wenge
fretboard. The finish is tung-oil for a satin look. A mix of black
(pickups, knobs) and chrome (bridge) hardware. I have it set-up in a mostly
fifths tuning with the hands crossed:
C, A, D, G, C, Bb, F, C, G, D.
The range goes from the low Bb (a half-step below a 6 string bass) on the
bass side. Up to the C (a major third lower than the guitars standard
highest E) on the treble side. The pickups are active Bartolini's. The
output is split between the C and the Bb strings. I'm running it through a
Roland KC-500 amplifier. It sounds pretty amazing.
You can hear some audio examples on the projects page, under Misc. Debris/Riffs.
These
are mostly riffs recorded straight into the computer.
